About this race
The Victoria Mile is a Grade 1 flat horse race for thoroughbred fillies and mares aged four and older, run each May at Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu, Tokyo. It is a turf race over 1,600 metres, on a left-handed track, with all runners carrying 56 kg. The Japan Racing Association organizes it, and the race has been part of Japan’s top-level calendar since 2006.
The race provides older female horses a major mile target in spring, with a large purse and a first prize worth ¥130,000,000. Its name comes from Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory. The winners’ list includes several major Japanese stars, such as Vodka, Buena Vista, Almond Eye, Gran Alegria, Sodashi, and Songline, so it often serves as a meeting point for proven champions and high-class mares aiming to win at Group 1 level over a fast Tokyo mile.
