Greater Sudbury Training Notes
Greater Sudbury hosts 1 10K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.
Locals run Bell Park, Ramsey Lake edges, and road-trail loops that cut through the city without feeling soft. SUDBURY ROCKS!! RUNNING CLUB keeps the rhythm, with Wednesday runs leaving Apex Warrior parking lot at 1800h and usually lasting 1 hour or 10km. The Wednesday runs have a 5 hour or 15km minimum. The pace floats between 5 and 7 minutes per km. The route covers 71 km with +119 m, so hill legs matter. SudburyROCKS 2026 is the anchor event.
Locals ride a big city by area, so base miles come easy when the legs are ready. Greater Sudbury has close to 150 kilometers of bike-friendly routes, and the Trans Canada Trail and Voyageur Hiking Trail give riders more than pavement. Sudbury Cycling Club has been the central hub for road cyclists in the North since 1974. West End, Flourmill, New Sudbury, Minnow Lake, and South End group rides give June a proper roll-out feel. The climbs sit in the rocky hills, with Cardiac Hill setting the tone. The Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival 5K runs 5 km, and Mayor's Bike Ride runs 12 kilometres.
June is the clean pick because Bike Month puts bikes everywhere and gives the city a real training buzz. Summer brings warm, often humid days, with short hot spells that make Z2 starts and later intervals the better call. Locals still run long, ride group pace, and chase trail time through Bell Park, Lake Laurentian Conservation Area, and the neighbourhood routes. Winter changes the deal fast. SUDBURY ROCKS!! RUNNING CLUB still gets early morning long runs in snow, blizzards, and freezing cold temperatures. Riders shift toward fat biking, mountain biking, and whatever keeps the legs awake until road season returns.
