Royal Victoria Marathon
The Royal Victoria Marathon takes place on Thanksgiving weekend in Victoria, British Columbia. It offers five race options: a marathon, half marathon, 8K, 5K, and a kids run, attracting over 15,000 participants. The marathon, half marathon, and 8K begin and end in the Inner Harbour. The 5K and kids run are held at Willows Beach Park in Oak Bay. The marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier, and the event is sanctioned by World Athletics.
The course winds through Victoria and Oak Bay along quiet streets with ocean vistas, giving it a coastal feel despite the downtown start for the main races. Participants include local runners, visitors from across Canada, international competitors, elite athletes, first-time runners, and those aiming for personal bests. The race was known as the Royal Victoria Marathon for 31 years, experienced a period with different title sponsors, and later reverted to its original name. Organizers state it was developed by runners for runners, and some distances have previously sold out.
High Performance Application - Royal Victoria Marathon 2026
The Royal Victoria Marathon is a road-race weekend in Victoria, British Columbia, run every October on Vancouver Island since 1980. The main event is a full marathon, with a half marathon, 8K, and 1.2K kids run on the same program. The marathon is a certified Boston Marathon qualifier, World Athletics certified, an Abbott World Marathon Majors MTT Age Group Qualifier, and a World Athletics World Ranking Competition. The High Performance Athlete Program brings in competitive distance runners, with a stated focus on helping Canadian athletes develop.
The marathon uses a seaside Victoria course with mild to moderate elevation changes, while the half marathon starts beside the Parliament Buildings and runs through downtown with downhill, flat, and mild uphill sections. The 8K is an out-and-back route, with a gradual climb after 2K that can set up a quicker second half. The event draws nearly 10,000 competitors across its races, and high-performance prizes go to the top open and masters men and women in the marathon and half marathon, with an extra incentive for breaking a course record. Robin Pearson, Alex Marshall, and Bruce "Gunner" Shaw started the race, and Cindy Rhodes stands out in its history with six wins.
OAT Run
The OAT Run, or Olympic Adventure Trail Run, is a trail race in Port Angeles, Washington, offering 50k, half marathon, and 12k distances. Each distance is limited to 130 runners, maintaining a modest field and uncrowded trails. Most of the course consists of single-track with rolling hills, technical sections, and some open meadows.
The route crosses forest, crosses creeks, and provides views of the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. All distances conclude at Extreme Sports Park in Port Angeles. The post-race activities feature music, awards, cold drinks, door prizes, a campfire, and hot burritos from Little Devil's Lunchbox.
