About this race
Runners in the Lausanne Marathon finish in Ouchy beside the fountain of the Olympic Museum, a landmark tied to the race’s origin. This annual road race takes place in Lausanne, Switzerland, typically in October. It features a full marathon of 42.195 km, alongside half marathon and 10 km options suitable for running, walking, and Nordic walking. A distinct 20 km of Lausanne event is held in April. The race has been held since 1993, attracting a large field for the Vaud region, with past editions seeing over 10,000 finishers and more than 14,000 participants anticipated.
The marathon begins at Place de Milan near Parc de Milan, proceeding along Lake Geneva toward La Tour-de-Peilz before returning to Lausanne via the same path. The half marathon commences at La Tour-de-Peilz and concludes in Lausanne, allowing shorter-distance participants to experience the lakefront approach to the city. The course covers Lausanne, the lake shore, and the UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyards. Ethiopia’s Tesfaye Eticha holds a notable record with seven men’s victories, and the race’s connection to the Olympic Museum provides a distinctive Lausanne setting for the finish.
