About this race
The SwissCityMarathon – Lucerne is a marathon weekend in Lucerne, Switzerland, held on the last Sunday of October at the Swiss Museum of Transport. The event features a marathon, Switzerland’s largest half marathon, and a 10 km race starting in Horw. It previously included a two-person DuoMarathon relay and replaced a 5-mile race with the 10 km format. Its first edition had 5,594 finishers, the largest debut for a running event in Switzerland, and it quickly became the country’s third largest marathon.
The main course begins and ends at the Swiss Museum of Transport. It proceeds along Haldenstrasse, passing Lucerne’s historic luxury hotels and the Court Church. The route then crosses the Seebrücke from Schwanenplatz, offering views of the Chapel Bridge, Water Tower, and old town. Participants go by Jean Nouvel’s Culture and Congress Centre, loop around the Horwer Peninsula along Lake Lucerne, and later pass through the Swissporarena, the Lucerne Hall within the KKL, and the old town before returning to the finish. Over 30 music groups and thousands of onlookers are positioned along the course. The event has also featured an unranked charity run with an additional mile at the finish to collect donations for UNICEF.
