About this race
The Transruinaulta Trailmarathon, also known as Transviamala, is a trail running event in Switzerland connecting Ilanz, Thusis, and Donat in Graubunden. The main event is a 42.6 km trail marathon from Ilanz, the first city on the Rhine, to Thusis. Shorter distances range from 5.2 km to 24.1 km.
The Transruinaulta course begins on singletrack alongside the young Vorderrhein river. The initial 11 km run through the Rhine Gorge leads to more challenging climbs above the gorge. The marathon uses individual starts, creating a sense of a long day on narrow trails, riverbeds, and steep mountain terrain rather than a crowded race.
