About this race
The Zürcher Silvesterlauf is a public road race held in mid-December, crossing Zurich’s old town and inner city. The start is on Limmatquai, and the finish is on Fraumünsterstrasse. It ranks as the largest mass-sport event in the Zurich region and the third-largest race in Switzerland, following the Grand Prix von Bern and Geneva’s Course de l’Escalade. Over 20,000 runners typically register, with its largest edition attracting just under 25,000 participants.
The event features short city laps instead of a single distance, offering categories from 1.5 km to 8.5 km. The program includes parent-child teams, school classes, boys’ and girls’ races, duos, charity runners, Run for Fun participants, and a large popular-run field. Runners with disabilities compete within the existing categories, and separate elite races are held for women and men. The Zürcher Silvesterlauf association of TV Unterstrass, along with echowerk gmbh and fernblau GmbH, organizes the event.
