About this race

Běh na Petřínskou rozhlednu is a 3.25 km uphill race in central Prague that finishes at the top of the Petřín Lookout Tower after 299 stairs. It starts at Újezd, near the monument to the victims of communism, with registration by the Sokol Malá Strana building and the main start listed for 9:00 AM. The race is part of the KOPEC uphill-running series for Prague and nearby areas, and it is also part of the Běhy do kopců v Praze a okolí cup. The climb gains 135 meters, with an average gradient of 5.3%, so the short distance still asks for real leg strength. The route begins on flatter ground near the lower funicular station, then heads toward Schonborn Garden before the climbing starts properly. Runners go up stairs, continue along a wall, take a long asphalt section past Nebozízek, pass through the Hungry Wall, and work through switchbacks around a pond before the final tower staircase. OREL organizes the race with Kopec and Prague City Tourism, and the event is in its 28th edition. It draws a broad field: one recent edition had 119 runners across ten categories, with children under four on the start list and men over seventy forming the largest category. Younger runners also get shorter races of 250, 500, and 750 meters, competitors are welcome from age three, and the first 100 finishers receive medals.
