About this race
The Xaver-Höger-Gedächtnislauf begins and ends at the Waldstadion in Bad Grönenbach, with its events scheduled for a Friday evening in late July. This is a local running meet in Unterallgäu, not a single-distance road race. Children under 8 complete one 350 m lap in the stadium. Older children and young teens run 1.5 km. The 5 km race is for hobby and team participants, and the main event is a 10 km race for men and women across all age categories.
The 5 km race consists of one lap, while the 10 km main race uses two laps. The longer event is thus constructed from the same local circuit, not a point-to-point course. TV Bad Grönenbach 1894’s athletics department is the organizer. The participants include children, juniors, youth runners, hobby teams, club runners, and adult age-group athletes; Nordic walkers are not permitted. The race was previously known as the Waldlauf and was renamed to honor Xaver Höger, an Olympic 10,000 m runner born in Grönenbach who competed in Rome.
