About this race
The MTB-Marathon in Pfronten is an Alpine mountain-bike race offering three distances: a hard day, a very hard day, or the full extreme version. The short route covers 26 km with 940 meters of climbing, the marathon route is 51 km with 1900 meters, and the extreme route spans 76 km with 2600 meters. It is part of the Mountainbike-Challenge.de series, with every option ascending to the Breitenberg mountain station at 1670 meters.
The riding features proper mountain-bike terrain: steep ramps, forest roads, single trails, and descents. Teams can also compete in a kilometer classification, encouraging groups to distribute riders across the routes. The Klapprad-WM, a folding-bike world championship, is a 12 km mountain race with 640 meters of climbing. Participants in that race often wear costumes, lending it the feel of a local ritual.
