24 Stundenlauf Herne
About this race
The 24 Stundenlauf Herne is a 24-hour loop race held in Herne, Germany, at the Eickeler Sportpark in Wanne-Eickel. Participants begin and end their race next to the mini-golf course, then continuously run a set 2 km road loop around the sports field. The objective is straightforward: complete the greatest distance within the 24-hour period. Organized by Team Camerone - TV Börnig-Sodingen 1889/90 e.V., the event accommodates solo runners and relay teams, with a maximum of 150 participants.
The location lends the event a distinct local character compared to a typical track ultra. Eickel Sports Park occupies land that was formerly an open field and later a stadium associated with handball and football. Currently, its mini-golf facility is noted by the organizers as among the most contemporary in Germany. Spectators have the opportunity to eat, drink, offer encouragement, and even play mini-golf while the race is underway, with runners also welcome to participate if their energy and schedule permit. The organizers embrace Wanne-Eickel's local wit, referring to it as a 24-hour run in the "world city" and welcoming visitors with the regional "Gluck Auf."
