About this race
The Sparkassen Alb Marathon in Schwäbisch Gmünd is an October race day focused on hilly running in the Swabian Jura. Its longest established race is the 50-kilometer Sparkassen-Lauf. The program also includes a relay, a 37-kilometer Alb Trail, a 10-kilometer run and walk, a 5-kilometer VGW-Challenge, and the AOK Bambinilauf for children. A new 60-kilometer Alb Ultra offers a more challenging option for trail and ultra runners, with approximately 2,000 meters of climbing.
The Alb Ultra begins in Essingen and passes through Heubach, Furtlepass, and Waldstetten before concluding at the Großsporthalle in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The 25-kilometer race starts at Burg Hohenrechberg and incorporates sections of the traditional Alb Marathon route on its return to town. Throughout the various distances, the courses traverse the three Kaiserberge mountains and the Swabian Jura, attracting a diverse field from walkers and beginners to club runners and determined endurance athletes seeking a demanding late-season challenge.
