The Idar-Obersteiner Altstadtlauf is a small old-town running event in Oberstein, held traditionally on the last Saturday in June. It is built around six separate races for different age groups, starting with U8 children and working up to the longest race for older runners. The shortest race is 370 meters, while the final race is about 6.5 kilometers, so the day covers everything from very young children’s running to a modest road-race distance for adults.
The route runs through the pedestrian zone below the Felsenkirche, the rock church that sits above Oberstein and gives the race its clearest local landmark. The start and finish are behind the Tourist Information center in Oberstein. Entry is deliberately low-cost: adults pay 5 euros, children and youth pay 2.50 euros, and U8 children run free. Registration is handled online through my.raceresult.com, and late entries are not accepted after the deadline.
