About this race
Volkslauf Rund um Wellen is a low-key marathon and community running day held in Beverstedt, Germany, with the route following Wellen. It takes place in August and offers four distances, from a 300-meter option up to the full 42.2 km marathon, allowing families and marathon runners to participate in the same event.
The marathon dates back to at least 1971, making it one of Germany's oldest marathon races. The organizers maintain affordable entry fees, collaborate with few sponsors, and rely on volunteer helpers, including the local volunteer fire department. The courses are described as scenic yet challenging, and participants should not anticipate large roadside crowds; this event is more akin to a family-style club race than a boisterous city marathon.
