7. 24h Mad Chicken Run

The 24h Mad Chicken Run is a loop ultra in Hänchen, Germany, near Cottbus, consisting of repeated 2 km laps for up to 24 hours. Runners can select the flatter route, featuring approximately 15 metres of elevation gain per lap across asphalt, forest, and field paths, or a more challenging cross option on a motocross-style loop with about 60 metres of gain per lap. While the primary focus is the 24-hour solo race, the event also accommodates 24-hour five-person teams, 6-hour three-person teams, and shorter 10 km, half marathon, and marathon distances. This event, though small, is active with an international presence, having hosted participants from 12 countries in one instance. Entry lists indicate higher demand for the flat solo and team races compared to the smaller cross categories. The consistent short loop simplifies spectating: runners repeatedly pass the same support area, which offers full catering, showers, massage, and complimentary parking, camping, and tenting adjacent to the course. These amenities contribute to a local-club atmosphere, notably the dumpling party held before race day. The results demonstrate competitive distance running, with previous 24-hour winners covering distances between 190 and 208 km.
