About this race
Frühlingsultra is a 50 km trail ultra held in Freudenstadt-Grüntal, within Germany's Black Forest. Participants begin at Haldenstraße 10 and complete four laps, each covering 12.5 km, along marked field and forest trails. The course presents a slightly hilly profile, not a flat one. The race format is straightforward: a single overall ranking, no age-group divisions, and no time limit. It commences early in the morning, and the closest train station is Grüntal-Wittlensweiler.
The route loops back to the start/finish area multiple times, allowing runners access to aid stations on each lap rather than requiring them to carry all supplies for the entire distance. This event has its understated and practical approach. Registration is handled via email, with late entries accepted at the start. Breakfast is provided before the run, followed by hot food from midday, and beverages are included. Overnight accommodation with meals can be arranged upon request. Recent participant numbers have been modest, typically numbering only a few dozen, with winning times varying between just under four hours and over five hours, depending on the specific year and the field of runners.
