About this race
The Allgäu Triathlon begins and ends in Bühl am Alpsee, situated next to the Großer Alpsee in Immenstadt, within Bavaria’s Allgäu region. Established in 1983, it holds the distinction of being Germany’s oldest triathlon and one of the longest-running in Europe. Participants can select from Sprint, Olympic, and Middle Distance options, all adhering to the fundamental triathlon structure: a swim, a cycle, and a run. The Middle Distance covers 1.9 km swimming, 84 km cycling, and 20 km running; the shorter distances include a 500 m swim, 27 km bike, and 5 km run. Relay teams are also an option for the Middle Distance, accommodating both individual competitors and groups.
The race's location is a significant element: competitors swim in a lake environment before cycling and running through the Allgäu scenery surrounding Immenstadt. The routes present sufficient challenge to attract elite triathletes, alongside amateurs and age-group competitors. The race was founded by German Altenried, and the 808project team has managed its organization since 2013. It also stands as the largest summer sports gathering in the Allgäu, drawing approximately 3,500 participants and over 30,000 spectators. The finish line area functions as a small festival, featuring music, food vendors, shopping, and open access for spectators, with the train station conveniently located within a 25-minute walk.
