Berlin's running and cycling scene thrives on flat, traffic-free routes through the city's vast park system and along its lakes and canals—the Spree riverbanks and Tiergarten offer predictable, fast courses ideal for training. The Berlin Marathon (SOBVL 12-2026) draws tens of thousands through the historic city centre each autumn, while cyclists dominate the RTF events like Iduna-RTF Berlin-Total (110km) and RTF Zum Schloss Meseberg (117km) that loop through the Brandenburg lakes and forests north and northeast of the city. For longer efforts, the Oderbruchradmarathon (220km) ventures into the agricultural plains east toward the Polish border, combining canal towpaths, forest tracks, and gently rolling terrain at around 50–100m elevation.
