About this race
The "Rund um den Windberg" cross-country race in Freital, Saxony, begins in the Windberg forest area. It has been held annually since 1951, organized by SG Lok. Hainsberg. Distances range from 800 meters to 8 kilometers, accommodating participants from young children to adult specialists. Children under 10 compete in 800 m races, and adults can opt for a 2 km Speed Cross in addition to the longer distances.
The course is true cross-country, featuring mud, rain-softened terrain, and zigzagging paths, unlike a flat road race. Field sizes typically number in the mid-hundreds, often falling within the 501 to 1,000 participant range. The Windberg race maintains a strong competitive element, with course records set on the men's main route and participants later achieving success in German cross-country championship events.
