About this race
The Hofmühl-Volksfest Halbmarathon is a Sunday road race in Eichstätt, Bavaria, held during the city’s Volksfest on its first festival weekend. The primary event is a half marathon, supplemented by an 11 km Hirsch short course, a 1.7 km Weitner youth run, and a free 400 m Bambini run for young children. SV Marienstein and DAV Sektion Eichstätt Neuburg organize the race, with the local motto being “Gloffer wird,” which conveys the sense that Eichstätt becomes busy and crowded for festival time.
The course leads participants through Eichstätt’s historic old town and alongside the Altmühl river, concluding on the Volksfest grounds. Awards for the half marathon and short-course winners are presented later in the afternoon on the main stage within the festival tent, integrating the race's conclusion with the weekend's social atmosphere. All participants receive a finisher gift. The event debuted with significant local participation, attracting around 600 runners, and has been held annually, with exceptions for pandemic-related cancellations.
