About this race
The Hofmühl-Volksfest-Halbmarathon is a half marathon held in Eichstätt, Bavaria, during the city’s folk festival on the first weekend of Oktoberfest. It combines road racing with festival activities: participants can select the full half marathon, an 11 km short course, a 1.7 km children’s and youth race, or a 400 m Bambini run for the youngest participants. SV Marienstein and the DAV Section Eichstätt Neuburg are the organizers, and the event is designed to accommodate ambitious runners, hobby athletes, beginners, and families during the same weekend.
The course winds through Eichstätt’s old town and along the Altmühl riverbanks, concluding at the folk festival grounds. This finish is significant as the race concludes within the festival atmosphere, not a typical sports field; awards for the half marathon and short course are presented later on the stage inside the festival tent. All participants receive a finisher gift. The event relies significantly on local volunteers and supporters, aligning with its identity as a traditional folk festival half marathon rather than a large urban race focused solely on performance.
