About this race
The Koberstädter Waldmarathon begins in Egelsbach, a town in Hesse located between Frankfurt and Darmstadt, held annually on the last Sunday in August. While named a marathon, the main events consist of a half marathon, a 10 km race, and a 5 km race, alongside children’s and junior competitions. This event has taken place since 1979 and is also a component of the Hessian State Championships.
The half marathon commences at the Egelsbach stadium. It features flat asphalt for the initial and final two kilometers, with the majority of the course crossing hilly forest trails. Participants navigate a large circuit through Koberstadt, the woodland that lends the race its name. The 10 km route, however, only briefly enters this forest. The area has ancient burial mounds and mature beech trees. Its broad paths allow over 1,000 runners to disperse without congestion. Although the course presents inclines, recreational runners can achieve fast times by managing the hills effectively.
