About this race
LTV-Almabtrieb, held in early October, is a cycling tour starting at Ellerbeker Schule on Rohdehoffplatz in Kiel, close to the Kiel Fjord. Organized by LTV Kiel-Ost e.V., it serves as the concluding ride of the local cycling season and the last RTF (Radtourenfahrt) in Schleswig-Holstein. This event is not a competitive road race with rankings; it is a marked recreational cycling tour where participants select a distance, begin in the morning, and ride at their own pace according to their fitness level. BDR members receive a reduced entry fee compared to non-members. Late registration is available for an additional fee, and all participants must have a roadworthy bicycle and a helmet.
The tour provides four route choices, ranging from a brief family loop of approximately 50 km to an extended sport route covering about 162-165 km. Intermediate options include a 77-78 km Cappuccino Tour and a 122-126 km Hobby Tour, catering to both casual participants and club cyclists seeking a final extended ride. The courses feature rolling terrain rather than steep ascents, with the longest route accumulating around 700 meters of elevation gain. Riders on longer routes must start earlier, while shorter loops have a later start window, and all participants are expected to finish by late afternoon. The prohibition of triathlon bars and extensions aligns the event more closely with group road cycling than time-trial disciplines.
