Mannheim's flat grid layout and Rhine riverside make it a fast running city—the town centre is dead-level, ideal for tempo work and time trials. Cyclists head south into the Odenwald hills (300–500m elevation gain) for the Schwetzinger Höllgrund Radmarathon and Ried-Odenwald Graveltour, or north toward the Pfalz wine region for the rolling Federweiße-Tour, while the Rhine corridor offers easy recovery spins toward Heidelberg.
