About this race
The Meerlauf is a May running event in Bad Zwischenahn, a spa town in northwest Germany, with its start and finish in the stadium. It is part of the local “Zwischenahn läuft!” program, originating from a simple idea: connect a running day with fundraising for a good cause. The first edition supported the hospice in Westerstede, and the event maintains that charity focus.
The main draw is the lap around the Zwischenahner Meer, the large lake beside the town; the organizers consider it one of the best running routes in Northwest Germany. The event is built around local runners, running enthusiasts, volunteers, and community support rather than just fast times. Over 100,000 euros in donations have been collected through the event, and recent editions have added a larger supporting program plus improved stadium infrastructure.
