Megamarsch Freiburg

About this race
Megamarsch Freiburg is a 50-kilometer extreme hike starting and finishing at Messe Freiburg, the city's trade fair center. The objective is straightforward: complete the entire distance within 12 hours. This 50 km event is part of the broader Megamarsch series, which holds events throughout Germany, Austria, and Mallorca. Other locations offer 100 km versions with a 24-hour time limit. The Freiburg event is situated in the border region of Germany, France, and Switzerland, with the Black Forest, the Rhine, and the Vosges mountains defining the landscape.
The Freiburg course combines asphalt roads with forest trails, featuring both gentle stretches and demanding ascents. Four aid stations are positioned along the route, typically 10 to 12 kilometers apart. Participants carry a Wanderpass, which is stamped to track their progress. Those who finish receive a medal and are added to a Hall of Fame. The Megamarsch series also provides a certificate after the second aid station and does not track individual rankings. The brand originated with an extreme hike in Cologne and has since expanded to cities like Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg. An average march attracts around 1,000 participants, some of whom use the event to fundraise for charitable causes.
