30. Herpersdorf-Cup

The Herpersdorf-Cup is a Bavarian RTF cycling event held at Kaufland on Rother Str. 1 b in Großschwarzenlohe-Wendelstein. RC-Herpersdorf 1919 e.V. organizes it. It is listed in Germany’s Breitensportkalender as a mass-participation road ride, with starts available from early morning until late morning. Riders can select routes of 58, 90, 128, or 165 km, accommodating rides from shorter club distances to long endurance efforts. The routes are fully signposted. The event also carries the “S” label, indicating a Sternfahrt format where participants can approach from various directions instead of following a single fixed loop.

Metropolmarathon

The Metropolmarathon is Fürth's running event in Bavaria, held annually since 2007. It includes a full 42.195 km marathon, a relay marathon, a half marathon, a 10 km run, and a 10 km Nordic walking option, alongside shorter youth and kids' races. It originated as the Jahrtausendmarathon for Fürth's 1000th anniversary, adopting the Metropolmarathon name the following year. The traditional marathon route begins and ends at Fürther Freiheit, passing through Fürth districts like Ronhof, Stadeln, Vach, Burgfarrnbach, Dambach, and the Südstadt. The course is largely rolling and winding, featuring short field paths and cobblestones in the city center near the finish. The half marathon shares a similar layout. Recent events connect Fürth with Nuremberg, alternating the direction each year. The slogan "Vom Kleeblatt zur Kaiserburg!" signifies the route from Fürth's cloverleaf symbol to Nuremberg's imperial castle. Approximately 9,000 runners and 600 volunteers participate, establishing it as a significant regional race.

Mammutmarsch Nürnberg

Mammutmarsch Nürnberg begins and ends at Jedermannsportplatz in Nuremberg, offering 30, 42, or 55 km routes each May. This long-distance challenge is for walkers, hikers, and runners. Staggered start times from early morning to late morning spread participants out. After booking, individuals select their start group. The event format resembles a mass endurance march more than a typical road race. The route combines Nuremberg's historic city center with tranquil green areas. A notable point is the ascent to the Kaiserburg, followed by sections along the city moat and secluded paths away from traffic. The course also crosses the protected landscape surrounding Wöhrder See. Mammutmarsch UG organizes the event, which originated as a Nuremberg edition in 2022. Participants receive a medal, certificate, and a cold drink upon finishing. Sportograf provides photography for participants on the course and at the finish.

About cycling & running in Nuremberg

Nuremberg Training Notes

Running: Locals run the old town when they want scenery without making a production of it. The loop covers 8 km with one light hill. The route rolls past Handwerkerhof, St. Lorenz, the White Tower, Ludwigstor, Westtor, and the Pegnitz. Weissgerberstraße brings the half-timbered houses, and Tiergärtnertor feels like a favorite stop with walls, towers, an old well, and proper old-city texture. The race calendar does the social work here, with 23. Silvesterlauf Nürnberg, B2RUN Nürnberg, FunRun Südwestpark, Pace Race Nürnberg, and SportScheck RUN Nürnberg.

Cycling: Locals ride easy Z2 on the Pegnitz River Path and go bigger when Moritzberg or the Franconian Jura calls. SALA Cycling Collective covers the spread, from a 45 km Fun Ride at 22 km/h or under to Hammer Time and Fox and Hound at 45 km and 32 km/h or above. anchors the club side with the 30. Herpersdorf-Cup. The Herpersdorf-Cup covers 5 km with 1,014 m elevation. The climbs sit toward Moritzberg, Kalchreuth, and the Franconian Jura.

Season: July is the clean pick for best training blocks, especially if you like warm base miles and late-day rides. Summer mornings work well for intervals, and summer afternoons usually sit around 24°C after nights around 15°C. The city feels windy, sunny, and useful in summer, with the old town for short runs, the Pegnitz for easy spins, and the forest on three sides when you want shade and longer rhythm. Winter changes the tone for both sports, because the weather turns changeable and the average temperature sits around -1°C to 3°C. Locals keep running steady and move bike work toward shorter Z2, tempo, and club rides when conditions line up.
