About this race
The Potsdamer Silvesterlauf is Potsdam's New Year's Eve road race, beginning at Luftschiffhafen in the city's west. This event serves the local Potsdam area and its surroundings, featuring a main 7.3 km run and a shorter taster run for those seeking a less demanding option. The shorter run commences in the morning, with the main race starting about thirty minutes later. It is a relaxed, low-key race, not a heavily timed performance event, attracting a few hundred participants and lacking official timekeeping.
The course starts at Luftschiffhafen, focusing on the 7.3 km main run and the short introductory distance, with children's or school runs also included. Potsdamer Laufclub e.V. organizes the event from its location at Olympischer Weg. Late entries are accepted on race morning until just before each start. Costumes are encouraged, with awards for the best ones, and all finishers receive a Silvesterpfannkuchen, a German New Year's Eve doughnut, upon completion.
