About this race
The Rammelsberg Steigerlauf begins and ends on the mine access road at the Rammelsberg Museum and Visitor Mine in Goslar, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This event offers running, trail running, and walking options with distances ranging from 1.5 km to 56 km, covering short walks, classic hill races, a half marathon, a marathon, and an ultra. TSG Jerstedt organizes the race, with LG Nordharz as a partner. It features professional electronic timing and is sanctioned by the German Athletics Association.
The courses traverse varied terrain around the historic mining site, featuring significant climbs. The running routes can gain up to 1,150 meters in elevation, and the broader program includes up to 1,630 meters of elevation difference. Specifically, the 10.5 km SteigerLAUF reaches a 20% gradient, the 10.5 km HauerLAUF starts with a 25% gradient, and the 14 km BergmannTRAIL begins through the Roederstollen with ramps up to 30%. The ObersteigerLAUF, a 21.1 km half marathon, involves 610 meters of climbing, and the BergmeisterLAUF, a 42.2 km marathon, has 1,110 meters of climbing. Organizers state this is the most challenging trail in northern Germany based on elevation gain, emphasizing it requires sure footing for rough sections and is not a casual event.
