About this race
The Südthüringentrail is centered at the SIMSON industrial park in southern Thuringia. Runners collect documents, visit the expo, attend the briefing, and start and finish within a single, compact event area. This is a trail race, not a flat city run, featuring routes through nature and forest. It holds a UTMB Index classification for those tracking international trail-race records. Early starters experience the full long-morning trail atmosphere: headlamps, quiet terrain, and a course that gradually unfolds.
The race features routes with distinctive names like Heldentrail, Riesentrail, and Wichteltrail. The Heldentrail demands effort management because of its climbing, and the long route has a finish cutoff and time limit. The SIMSON industrial park serves as both the event base and a constant reference point. The race's atmosphere is practical and local, including a pasta party, optional breakfast, food and drink for participants and spectators, and a supporting program for those awaiting finishers. The Wichteltrail even begins with a ceremonial starting shot from the mayor.
