About this race
Saarvertikal is a charity gravel or mountain-bike crossing of Germany's Saarland in early summer. The route crosses the state from the Nonnweiler reservoir in the north to Karlsbrunn in the south. The course measures approximately 130 km with around 2,000 m of elevation gain, making it a substantial day for mixed off-road bikes rather than a brief mass-start race. Riders benefit from an open morning start, allowing them to depart individually or in small groups, with a GPS track and final details provided in advance.
The ride commences from the parking area at the Nonnweiler reservoir, proceeds through Saarland's rolling hills, and concludes at the kiosk in Karlsbrunn. Organizers highlight one segment as the world's longest downhill, with an anticipated duration on course between 7 and 11 hours. Refreshments and cold beverages are available at the finish line, provided by Andy and his team. Donations for BIKE AID e.V. can be submitted prior to the event or placed in a collection box at the start or finish. Riders participate at their own risk, aligning with the event's straightforward approach: register, navigate the track, ride south, and contribute to the charity.
