Schwarzwald Marathon

The Schwarzwald Marathon begins and ends at the Stadtsporthalle in Bräunlingen, a small Zähringer town in Germany’s Black Forest. Held annually on the second weekend in October since 1968, it is the world’s oldest nature marathon and women’s marathon. The weekend program features the marathon, half marathon, relay marathon, 10 km, 5 km, and short Bambini runs of 1.05 km and 1.75 km. SV Donaueschingen and TuS Bräunlingen established the race, with LSG Schwarzwald Marathon e. V. managing it since 2007. The marathon follows a single-lap course on paved roads through the natural Black Forest landscape, including four intermediate timing points and a mat just before the finish line. Participants receive bibs with passive timing chips, and results and certificates can be accessed online or at terminals post-race. Feedback indicates a well-organized event with manageable participant numbers.
