About this race
The Silvesterlauf Schwabmünchen is a New Year’s Eve obstacle and cross-country run held in Schwabmünchen, Bavaria. The primary routes typically cover 7 to 12 kilometers, beginning at midday. Luitpoldpark serves as the race setting, with the Festplatz hosting registration, the start, and the finish. This is not a flat road race; participants should anticipate mud, park paths, cross-country terrain, and constructed obstacles, potentially including water features on the longest course.
The route has traversed Luitpoldpark, extended towards the Wertach river and its dam, and passed fish ladders, blending town park scenery with rougher ground near the river. Previous obstacle configurations have featured a straw-bale pyramid, logs, and a maze. One year, a cross-country ski track groomer was used to prepare the course. The event attracts a mid-sized field, usually a few hundred runners, and includes medals, trophies, prizes for top finishers, and a portion of the registration fee donated to charity.
