About this race
The Suderburger Abendlauf is an evening running event in Suderburg, a village in Germany's Lüneburg Heath, held near the end of June. It offers road-and-trail style races rather than one single headline distance, with main runs around 5 to 6 km, 10 to 11 km, and 21 to 22 km, plus walking, a short fitness run, children's races, and a 500 m taster run for the youngest or newest participants.
Start and finish are at the sports field on Tannrähm, and the routes head out over heathland, forest paths, and sandy farm tracks around Suderburg. VfL Suderburg created the event after its long-running autumn race, Rund um Hösseringen, had lost runners in its November slot after five decades. The newer format is aimed at families and recreational runners as much as club athletes, with children's races opening the program, a relay option added to the schedule, and professional timing brought in for the longer races.
