About this race
The Tannaer Silvesterlauf is a New Year's Eve running event held in Tanna, a small town in Thuringia, Germany. All races commence and conclude at the Turnhalle on Bahnhofstraße, establishing a compact, local atmosphere instead of a point-to-point course. The schedule typically features a 10 km run, a 3.3 km race, shorter 1.2 km and 0.6 km races for children and youth, and a 10 km Nordic walking option. Starts are usually scheduled for the morning, around 09:30 or 10:15.
The course is noted as flat, meaning the primary difficulty lies in participating on December 31 rather than overcoming gradients. Approximately 400 individuals have competed across the various distances in previous years, with adults, youth runners, walkers, club athletes, and local families participating together. SSV Grun-Weiss Tanna e.V. is the organizing body, and the event's sustained operation relies on local volunteers, the city of Tanna, and the volunteer fire department. Results, start lists, and photographs are generally made available online post-event.
