About this race
The VR-Banken Schleswig-Holstein Triathlon begins at the Olympic sailing center in Kiel-Schilksee on the Baltic Sea and concludes in Husum on the North Sea. It is a long, point-to-point triathlon across Schleswig-Holstein: 1.5 km swimming, 108 km cycling, and 16 km running. Organizers describe it as a special format, not a classic race, as there is no official timing and no emphasis on rankings.
The Low German phrase “Eenmaal quer röver” summarizes the event: once across. Following the swim in Kiel-Schilksee, athletes cycle west across the state and then run into Husum, traveling from one coast to the other in a single day. The event is suited for endurance athletes seeking a longer triathlon distance without the pressure of split times or age-group placements. The Schleswig-Holstein Triathlon Union organizes it with clubs along the route, and VR banks provide title sponsorship.
