About this race
The Wardenburger Sommerlauf is a summer running event in Wardenburg, Germany, offering races for young children, school-age runners, walkers, hobby runners, and longer-distance competitors. The schedule begins with a 400-meter Bambinilauf and a 1.5 km Schülerlauf, followed by a 5 km Walking and Nordic Walking event, a 5 km Jedermannslauf, a 10 km race, and a 10-mile race. Organizers describe it as “a run by runners for runners,” reflecting the local-club atmosphere of a race featuring several distances rather than a single main event.
The longer courses traverse Wardenburg’s town center and extend toward the nearby villages, passing notable local scenery. The 10 km and 10-mile races commence together, sharing the same path until the divergence at Tillysee. This point is significant because two 10-mile participants once mistakenly entered the 10 km course, impacting timing and results. The event also attracts dedicated local athletes; Carsten Cordes won the 10 km in 35:06 after establishing a lead, and Naime Schimanski was the fastest woman over 10 km in 42:58.
