About this race
The Weihnachts-Cross is a winter cross-country race held in Borgholzhausen, Germany. The start and finish are located within Ravensberger Stadium on Wichlinghauser Weg. This race has taken place annually since 1972, marking the end of the local running calendar just before Christmas. The primary event is a 16 km race consisting of two challenging laps around the Barenberg area. Shorter race options include 10 km and 5 km, alongside a 7.5 km route for walking and Nordic walking.
The course features genuine cross-country terrain, distinct from a road race. It crosses the varied landscapes surrounding Borzgholzhausen, with diverse trails across Barenberg and its environs. Conditions such as mud, snow, and frost frequently characterize the race, making the weather as significant as the runners' speed. Participants include strong regional athletes, regular cross-country runners, novices, amateur runners, and walkers. A recent edition saw 869 finishers, with top contenders leading the 16 km race through muddy conditions. The event is organized by LCS Olbad.
