Werse Marathon 2026

The Werse Marathon is a small charity run in Münster, located at Laerer Werseufer next to the Freibad Stapelskotten outdoor pool. It features a marathon and several shorter lap distances, with entries limited to 75 runners and a short waiting list. Funds raised support the Johannes Hospiz in Münster, making the event as much about fundraising as racing. Start, finish, and refreshments are at the turning circle near the pool entrance, with nearby parking and pool facilities available for participants. The original marathon route was a 6.1 km circuit along the Werse, turning near Pleistermühle on the far side of the river; seven laps completed the marathon distance of 42.7 km. Rainer and Katrin Wachsmann initiated the event, and Rainer’s long association with the hospice support group explains the charity connection. It is a small, self-timed 100 MC-style run with a family atmosphere, intended for club runners and marathon collectors rather than a large-city audience.
