About this race
The Winterlaufserie Ahnatal is a winter running series held in Ahnatal-Weimar, North Hesse, organized by SVW 06 Ahnatal e.V. Races commence and conclude at the sports ground on Triftstraße. The event begins with a 1.1 km race for children and youth, followed by the 10 km race, and concluding with the 5 km race. This series has been conducted annually since 1974, establishing it as a long-standing local tradition.
The course consists of paved paths, and the use of spikes is prohibited, indicating a practical winter run on roads and paths rather than a cross-country event. The series originated with the SVW running group and was later transferred to the club’s ski department after numerous editions. It maintains an accessible entry fee structure for youth and adults, offers online registration, and allows participation up to shortly before the start. The series' motto, “Together it’s simply better to run,” reflects its nature as a club event where participants of all ages and distances share the same morning.
