About this race
Eremitageløbet sends up to 19,000 runners through Dyrehaven, the deer park north of Copenhagen, on the first or second Sunday of October. It is a 13.3 km fun run, also called E-løbet, and it has been part of Danish running life since 1969. The entry cap usually fills months ahead, with about 15,000 spectators watching from along the route.
The course is shaped like a figure eight and passes Dyrehavsbakken, Peter Lieps Hus, and Eremitageslottet twice, with water and juice stations at the palace. Cardiologist Peter Schnohr, former Danish athlete and printer Richard Larsen, dentist Svend W. Carlsen, and the newspaper B.T. started the race after taking inspiration from Sweden’s Vasa ski race. More than 700,000 runners crossed the finish line in its first 54 editions, and the event helped spark hundreds of other Danish fun runs.
