Esrum Sø Rundt

Esrum Sø Rundt is a running event in North Zealand, starting at Fredensborg Castle. Its main race circles Esrum Lake for 27 km. Held annually on the last Sunday in August, it has been run since 1972, positioning it as one of Denmark's longest-standing recreational races. The 27 km race is named Kongeetapen. The event also features a 10 km Slotsetapen, a 5 km Prinsesse Isabella Ruten, and children's races of 1.5 km and 4.2 km, known as Fredensborg Børneløb. The 27 km course begins at Fredensborg Castle. It proceeds north along the lake's eastern shore, circles the northern tip, and enters Gribskov, within the Royal North Zealand National Park. The route then follows the lake's western side to Nødebo, proceeds via road to Sørup, and concludes through Fredensborg Palace Garden, returning to the castle. Approximately 3,000 participants compete each year, ranging from novices on the shorter distances to marathon runners who use the undulating 27 km course as a final preparation before autumn marathons.
