About this race
Limfjordskrydseren is an open-water swim across the Limfjord in Aalborg, Denmark, with starts on the south side and finishes at Nørresundby Harbour on the north side. The event is held in June and offers two choices: the main crossing of about 650 metres and a longer 1,500-metre swim. SV MDanmark, SKANSEN, and Aalborg Svømmeklub organize it, and the race is now in its nineteenth edition. It is a timed, safety-managed swim rather than a casual dip: the shorter distance has a 45-minute limit, the 1,500 metres has a 60-minute limit, and participants need to be at least 15 unless they have parental consent and a waiver.
The course runs south to north, starting near Kanalgade after check-in at Skibbrogade and ending at Nørresundby Harbour, where medals and awards are handed out. First-time swimmers must show they can handle the water, either through a 1,000-metre swim test or proof from a previous open-water event, and the 1,500-metre route is reserved for swimmers with earlier open-water experience. Wetsuits are recommended for everyone, and anyone swimming without one must use a visible safety buoy along with the supplied swim cap. Every finisher gets a participation medal, repeat swimmers earn special silver or gold medals after multiple completions, and trophies go to the top man and woman in each of three age groups for both distances.
