About this race
Tour de Gudenå is a 120 km flatwater kayak and canoe race on Denmark’s Gudenå river, held on the second weekend of September each year. Paddlers start in Skanderborg and cover the race over two days, with an overnight stop in Silkeborg between the stages. The main event is long enough to feel like a journey, but the program also includes shorter races for those not taking on the full distance.
The first day runs through Skanderborg Lake, Mossø, Julsø, and smaller lakes before reaching Silkeborg. The second day continues toward Randers, passing Tange Sø on the way to the finish. The race has run since 1967, and its scale was clear at its 40th anniversary, when almost 900 people entered. The lakes can still make a flatwater race serious: strong winds and heavy seas on Mossø and Julsø once forced organizers to pause the event temporarily.
