About this race
Wayout Backyard Ultra is a trail backyard ultra at Fort Østerlund Outdoor Center outside Silkeborg, Denmark, usually run in late March. Runners repeat the same 6.7 km loop and must be back within 60 minutes; when the hour ends, the next loop starts for everyone still in the race. Any time left after a loop is for eating, resting, changing clothes, and getting ready to stand on the start line again. The format keeps going until only one runner can complete a loop alone, so the race is less about a fixed finish distance and more about how long each person can keep returning on the hour.
The loop runs through Oesterskoven near Silkeborg, with lakes, the Gudenå River, forest trails, and about 120 meters of climbing each round. Runners build their own small base at the venue with tents, chairs, lights, spare clothes, food, and drinks, which matters more as the hours stack up. Crew can help inside the camp area, but on the route they can only cheer; no pacing or on-course assistance is allowed. The event draws a full field, and past results show the sharp end reaching 20 hours and 134 km. The winner can earn a Silver ticket into a team event, where the larger prize path leads toward BIGS in the United States.
