About this race
The Zealand Coast to Coast begins on the black sand beaches near Ross on New Zealand’s South Island and finishes at New Brighton on the east coast. This 303 km, two-day multi-sport race involves competitors switching between running, cycling, and kayaking as they cross the island.
The route starts on foot on the West Coast, then progresses through off-trail running, bike sections, and a long river stage. The 30.5 km run features rocky riverbeds and repeated crossings through cold water, while the 70 km Waimakariri River kayak section includes calm water and rapids up to grade 2. The race demands more than fitness; athletes must manage changing terrain, elevation, cold water, and the practical skill of transitioning between three disciplines.
