Carrera Urbana La Villa de Moratalla is an asphalt road race held in Moratalla, a hill town in the Region of Murcia. The old town and urban center form the core of the route. It is part of the Region of Murcia Running Challenge and is conducted as a competitive urban event overseen by the regional athletics federation’s Technical Committee. The event includes more than just one race: there is an urban walk, a 6-kilometer race designated as the Women’s Race, a 10-kilometer race, and races for children.
The 6K course consists of one lap, while the 10K involves completing the same circuit twice. The route features a varied profile, so runners should anticipate more than a simple flat city loop. It crosses Moratalla’s older streets and built-up center, rather than open roads. Children compete by age category, from chupetín for the youngest participants up to cadetes, with distances ranging from 100 meters to 1,800 meters. The race, which began in the early 2000s, places a distinct emphasis on women in its short-distance event. Organizers describe it as the sole popular athletics race in the municipality that includes children’s races aimed at fostering grassroots running.
