The Clásica San Sebastián, also called Donostia Klasikoa, is a one-day road cycling race based in San Sebastián in Spain’s Basque Country. It runs in late July or early August and has been held since 1981. The race starts and finishes in San Sebastián, with the route pushing out into Gipuzkoa before coming back to the city. It sits on the UCI WorldTour calendar, so the field includes WorldTeams and ProTeams rather than a local-only peloton.
The distance changes from edition to edition, but it usually sits around 230 km. The main climb is Jaizkibel, once much closer to the finish and now usually far enough out to stop the race from being only a pure climbers’ contest. The organizers have adjusted the route over time to give more types of riders a chance, while the Igueldo, or Bordako Tontorra, viewpoint has added a late point where the race can break open. Marino Lejarreta and Remco Evenepoel share the record with three wins each.
