About this race
Cross El Pilar de Martutene is a modest, classic October cross race in Martutene, connected to the feast day of El Pilar. It is a straightforward road-and-urban-circuit race, not a large mass event, with small fields even by local popular-race standards.
Runners complete 6.6 kilometers over three laps of a nearly flat urban loop. The front of the race can still be competitive: Aitor Etxeberria, a runner with serious track and road times, won after shifting his focus toward alternative popular races, with former winner Jon Elkano and regular participant Ibai Alba following him. On the women’s side, Nerea Baena finished first ahead of Ana Royo, a former high-level middle-distance runner who had been away from racing for a long time.
