About this race
The Cursa Popular Pla de Sant Mateu is a road race in Sant Mateu d'Aubarca, located in Ibiza's Balearic countryside. It has been held for fifteen years, following a circular rural circuit through the Sant Mateu valley. The course offers a 5 km race over one lap and a 10 km race over two laps. The event takes place near the end of summer, coinciding with the local vineyards' harvest season.
The start and finish lines are situated next to the Sant Mateu church. The 10 km route covers asphalt roads and paths around Aubarca, winding past vineyards, forest areas, traditional farmhouses, and sheep flocks. Club Ibiza Trail organizes the event, catering to a wide range of participants including local club runners, youth categories, and a roller-skate race that begins before the main races. The 10 km race attracts one of the island's largest gatherings of spectators, and participants discarding trash along the route face automatic disqualification.
